Patricia Tarasovic

Pat Tarasovic, Director of the Volunteer Center, has been named as one of six "Women Making a Difference in the Valley" by the The Valley Women's Health Initiative. She will receive the award at the 9th Annual Women Making a Difference in the Valley (WMDIV) Tribute Luncheon and Breast Cancer Fundraiser on Thursday, October 1, 2009 from 12:00-2:00 pm at the Grassy Hill Lodge in Derby. The tribute recognizes “outstanding women" who have made positive contributions to the community and have demonstrated significant achievement in their fields of endeavor, both professional and volunteer. You can read more about some of Pat's achievements here.

Five other women representing the following communities will be honored this year. They are: Ann Conroy and Christine Cooper, Seymour; Peggy Marlowe, 6-town Valley community; Debbie Steckert, Oxford; and Norma Travis, Ansonia.

The Women’s Health Initiative, Co-Chaired by Kate Cosgrove of Oxford and Dr. Stephanie Wain of Griffin Hospital, is comprised of members of the community working toward a common goal of addressing and improving breast cancer awareness. Proceeds from the Luncheon and Tribute benefit the Griffin Hospital/Valley Breast Care Fund, established in an effort to ensure that no person, regardless of age or socio-economic condition, is denied screening mammograms or diagnostic testing for breast cancer. To date, more than 350 women have benefited from the program
