PerkinElmer Gains the Title

After finishing second three times previously, PerkinElmer has nailed down their first Corporate Cup volleyball title with a convincing win in this year's tournament. The PerkinElmer #1 team went undefeated throughout the day capped by a convincing 21 - 14 win over runners-up Griffin Hospital Hitters 21 - 14 in the championship game. Griffin jumped to an early 2-0 lead, but PerkinElmer caught them at 7-7 and slowly pulled away to cap their perfect day.
The winning PerkinElmer #1 team earned the number one seed in championship play after going 3-0 and outscoring their opponents 45 -21 in Division 1 of the qualifying round. Griffin topped Division 2 with a 3-0 record and they outscored their opponents 45-25 to nail down the #2 seed.
PerkinElmer defeated TEAM, Inc. 21-7 and Birmingham Group Health Services 21-13 to reach the finals while the Griffin Hospital Hard Hitters squeaked by surprising CDWG 21-20 in the closest game of the day and then knocked off Hawley Lane Shoes 21-9 on their way to the title game.
Hawley Lane Shoes topped Birmingham in the consolation game to capture third place in the final standings. In other consolation action, CDWG climbed all the way to fifth place with wins over PerkinElmer A and the Griffin Hospital Spikers who finished sixth. PerkinElmer "A" routed TEAM, Inc. in the battle for seventh place.
