Leadership Greater Valley 2006 began on September 21 with an opening session at the Jones Family Farm in Shelton and ended with a graduation reception at Yale's spectacular Gilder Boat House on November 16. Participants will now be working with Valley United Way's Volunteer Action Center to put their new skills to work in volunteer leadership positions throughout the Valley. This marked the eleventh year for the program which was originally called the LEAD program, but was upgraded and renamed six years ago when the Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce joined the Valley Council for Health & Human Services and Valley United Way in sponsoring the unique program.

Over the course of eight weeks, the participants had the opportunity to learn a lot more about themselves and the community at weekly sessions that included a wide range of topics including:

• History of the Valley - September 21
• Qualities of Leadership - September 28
• Business Ethics - October 5
• Diversity  - October 12
• Government  - October 19
• Economic Development - October 26
• Health & Human Services  - November 1
• Arts & Culture - November 9
• Graduation - November 16
