Spooner House and Valley Food Bank Network Area Congregations Together (ACT) provides, food, shelter, and support services to those people in need in the Valley. Supporting over 250 homeless men, women and children, and providing supplemental food insurance to over 3, 00 individuals in the community each year, ACT is devoted to helping clients establish self-sufficient living. Recognizing the dignity of our clients, we give them our respect and deliver our services without proselytizing. Thanks to funding from the Valley United Way, we are able to provide our shelter residents with transportation (bus tokens & train tickets) and aid with the costs associated with the agency vehicle, used for delivering food for Valley Food Bank and the Spooner house and assisting transporting residents as needed. Valley United Way funding also helps support the costs of the programs associated with the Valley Food Bank and Spooner House, including income and expense budgeting, goal setting and action plans, and medication management. Area Congregations Together makes a remarkable difference in our Valley community. ACT operates the ONLY shelter for the homeless in the Lower Naugatuck Valley, and one of the few in the state that houses families with children, as well as single adults. Through our services we keep people off the streets and give them the services, support, and reassurance to get back on their feet and break the cycle of homelessness. |
