Shelter for Domestic Violence Survivors Refurbished!THANKS FOR A JOB WELL DONE! Valley United Way's Week of Caring 2001 was a tremendous success. This year, the Volunteer Action Center's Corporate Volunteer Council returned to the site of its first major project, Umbrella's Safe Home for Victims of Domestic Violence. After six years of wear and tear incurred from the normal heavy use of up to 12 families at a time occupying the shelter, it was time for a major facelift - and that is exactly what it got! With the gentle guidance of Volunteer Action Center Director Lisa Shappy a small army of volunteers attacked the shelter for five straight days. They scraped, cleaned, raked, painted, planted and refurbished both the outside and inside of the shelter. You can see our talented volunteers in action throughout a busy week by clicking on the daily links below. T-shirts were provided for all workers by Iroquois Gas Transmission Systems.
