Brittany Guerrerea Volunteering and helping others has always been an extremely important part of my life. Throughout high school I was a member of the Best Buddies Organization, a peer tutor, an assistant at charity dance events performed by my dance studio, and a volunteer at Camp Tepee, a day camp held during the summer. At the beginning of my junior year I was also asked to join the Valley United Way High School Volunteer Council, which turned out to be an amazing experience. Through the HSVC I was given so many opportunities to aid the community and to meet new and exciting people from the other Valley high schools. Bringing students together, the High School Volunteer Council provided a powerful force, committed to making the Valley a better place. From seeing children smile at the Holiday Festival to making people laugh at Mr. Valley Student Body, my two years as a part of the HSVC have molded me into the young woman I am today. The council has equipped me with great leadership skills and made me realize that helping others is something I want to continue to do throughout my lifetime. Now, as a freshman at Fordham University, I am still involved in many activities such as mentoring and tutoring children in the Bronx area, participating in community service events held through the residence halls, and helping out at other campus benefits. Also, as a current member of the Fordham University Dance Team, I took part in the Breast Cancer Walk in Central Park and performed at a baseball game benefiting people with autism. Using what I have learned through the High School Volunteer Council, I plan to make the rest of this year and my future years here at Fordham worthwhile by giving back to the community. To me, nothing can be more rewarding!
