Connecticut Public Television is spending the month focusing on "The Power of Giving: Stories of Volunteerism", and Valley United Way, 2-1-1, and United Ways all across the state are pleased to be partners in the program. Recognizing the impact that volunteers have in our communities - especially during these difficult economic times - CPTV is promoting volunteerism on air and on their website culminating with a special Volunteer-A-Thon on Thursday, June 25 at 8 p.m. repeating on Saturday, June 27 at 6 p.m. Click here for an informative flyer. CPTV will be featuring stories and videos highlighting the contributions of individual volunteers. They will also be encouraging people to volunteer in their local communities. They have partnered with United ways and Volunteer Centers across the state to use the Volunteer Solutions database of volunteer opportunities on a statewide basis. Users will be able to select opportunities in their local communities from a drop down box on a page provided by United Way. Valley United Way was one of the first United Ways in the country to adopt Volunteer Solutions as a method of providing volunteers with an easy to use portal for finding volunteer opportunities. You can find Valley opportunities by clicking here. CPTV will also be encouraging nonprofit organizations to register their opportunities with Volunteer Solutions and to promote its use. Valley nonprofits can easily get a free listing by clicking here. Watch for more information in the coming days. |
