Valley United Way’s Corporate Volunteer Council has selected Catholic Charities in Ansonia as its 11th Annual Week of Caring project. Week of Caring started Monday and is winding down to its conclusion.

Members of the Corporate Volunteer Council have already painted 14 rooms and are working on major landscaping projects. Week of Caring provides an opportunity for corporate volunteers to connect with their community, share talents and work together on one major project that makes a huge impact on the Valley community.

"Week of Caring gives corporate employees an appreciation for the needs of the community, and an opportunity to make a difference in a hands-on way; helping the agencies that make the Valley community a great place to work and or live. It’s a win for our employees, our business and our community," said Bill Bubbico, Vice President Strategic Business Transformation for Pitney Bowes and Co-Chair of Valley United Way’s Corporate Volunteer Council.

Week of Caring has been an annual tradition of the Corporate Volunteer Council since it was created in 1995. It is an emblem of corporate volunteer leadership in the Valley community. In the past years, Corporate Volunteer Council members have renovated the battered woman’s shelter, the homeless shelter, painted and refurbished Parent Child Resource Center, completely renovated and painted the REC Camp in Derby, painted and renovated Derby Day Care, Salvation Army and Team's Headstart building. Just this past year, in quite a symbolic and mammoth gesture, the Cvc responded to hunger in the Valley by constructing a 400 square foot house on the Shelton Walk Way. The walls of the house were lined with 100,000 cans and boxes of food that was distributed to seven Valley nonprofits who serve the needy. Hundreds of Valley people who were in need of food were able to feed their families.

Week of Caring gives a first hand look at how agency programs are affecting people’s lives. It gives the corporate community a quick look into how Valley United Way is more than just a fund-raiser. Catholic Family Services is very pleased that they were chosen and look forward to the Week of Caring.

Catholic Charities strengthens/supports families by providing professional mental health counseling, adoption and crisis pregnancy services, employment assistance and Hispanic outreach. The agency serves individuals and families regardless of age, race, gender, religion or income.
