Physicians Health Service, headquartered in Shelton, set an ambitious goal for its Pacesetter Campaign this year at they established a goal that was close to 61% higher than what was actually raised a year ago. No one expected that they would surpass the goal by more than 28%!! They did it with excellent planning and by making it a fun filled month of activities for all employees.

Jay Schwanz and Chris Sparmer flank United Way "Ice Cream Sundae Specialists" Jose Pena, Jack Walsh and Jim Horne. The United Way crew served ice cream to the PHS United Way committee as a thank you for a campaign well done!

PHS's CEO Karen Coughlin helped to get the campaign off to a rousing start at a kickoff rally in which she announced her own personal gift to the campaign which placed her at the Alexis DeTocqueville giving level. She spoke of her own family and their experiences in using community services earlier in her life. She then challenged other staff members to join her in making their donations.

The Campaign Committee then took over with a whirlwind schedule of activities that included bake sales, barbecues, dress-down days, manicure days, "legwork" days and even an executive dunk tank. Not only did PHS raise a record breaking amount to benefit United Way agencies throughout the Tri-State area, but they also reported a tremendous boost to employee morale at the same time!
