Allstate employees in Shelton held a rally as part of their 1999 "We're Giving a Hand to Giving"  campaign with Jack Walsh serving as the United Way guest speaker and Valerie Cornuoyer of SONCCA describing her agency's services. Walsh highlighted the Valley's participation in the All America City competition in Philadelphia earlier this year. He pointed out that All State is the sponsor for the national competition which recognizes local communities for their civic involvement in improving the quality of life in their community.

He then told the story of the Valley's entry and the numerous ways that United Way, its volunteers and agencies were involved in the Valley's selection as one of 30 finalists from around the country. He said, "We were thrilled to be selected as one of 30 elite communities from around the country. We work very hard to create a better community, and it's great to see that All State takes the lead in recognizing such efforts."

Allstate's campaign raised more than $3,000,000 to support charitable causes across the country last year and the company provided a 20% of the employee contributions. The goal this year is $4,000,000.
