Foundation Challenge Boosts Campaign

The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven has provided United Way with a tremendous incentive for giving in the form of a challenge grant. Under the terms of the grant, the Foundation will match all new and increased giving this year and next up to an amount of $40,000 each year.

Jack Walsh, President and C.O.O. of Valley United Way thanked the foundation for their continuing support of the community campaign. He said that, "The Foundation has offered us similar challenges in the past, and they have always provided a spark to help build a better campaign. When donors recognize that the Foundation is matching their new or increased giving, they are more inclined to give."

This year's challenge is the second of a two year grant from the Foundation. During the 2005-2006 campaign, United Way easily qualified for the funding and fully anticipates that donor support will lead to success again this year.

Since 1928, donors to The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven have built the community's endowment currently valued at approximately $245 million. In 2005, The Foundation Board of Directors distributed over $14 million in grants from over 600 different named charitable funds supporting a wide range of programs and projects. The Foundation’s service area encompasses: Ansonia, Bethany, Branford, Cheshire, Derby, East Haven, Guilford, Hamden, Madison, Milford, New Haven, North Branford, North Haven, Orange, Oxford, Seymour, Shelton, Wallingford, West Haven and Woodbridge.
