Corporate Cup Hoops 2015

Sam Stringfellow & Kevin Dunn are your Hoops sharpshooters. More pictures Thursday.
After an absence of 17 years, basketball came back to the Community Corporate Cup as a shooting contest – and we had some great ones! Kevin Dunn and Sam Stringfellow of BIC were aptly named as Points Unlimited as they rained points on their competition all night long. They toppled CDW’s Teardrops (Michale Lupone and Hesse Altieri) team by a 136-120 score in the finals after both had advanced with scores of 120 in the semi-finals. Interestingly, both teams had the same strategy for winning. Rather than taking their chances with long shots or layups, they concentrated on the foul line, and it paid off in both cases.
Griffin Hospital’s Michael Currie and Justing Pereiras had a strong third place showing while CDW’s Greg Knopping finished fourth after advancing to the semi-finals by posting a tie-breaking win over the fifth place Griffin All Stars team of Desean M. and Tony K.
Each member will have 1 minute to make as many shots as possible from designated spots on the court. Each spot will be worth a given number of points, and the shooter can decide what mixture of shots to take. The other team member will serve as rebounder and passer. At the end of each round, teams will be knocked out of the competition until only two are left to decide the winner. Final standings will be determined by the round that a team is knocked out and the total points earned in that round.
