 Volleyball Crown Goes to HealthNet

Sportsmanship was the order of the day following HealthNet's win over Griffin Hospital in the finals.

HealthNet made its debut in the Corporate Cup Volleyball Tournament a memorable one as their "A" team ran away with a win in their first year of competition after they defeated former champion Griffin Hospital in the finals after disposing of defending champs, United Illuminating in the semi-finals. HealthNet "A' entered bracket play as the top seed after dominating their round robin division with three straight wins while posting two shutouts and giving up only four points in total! The round robin domination extended to the Health Net "B" team which also went undefeated in winning their bracket and earning the overall number 2 seed. They didn't fare so well in bracket play as they were eliminated by CDWG team "B" before finishing seventh overall.

Griffin Hospital also went undefeated in bracket play to earn the number 3 seed and a bye in bracket play. Tele-Media's A team got the fourth seed and earned the other bye in bracket play.

HealthNet's winning team consisted of Derik DelCegno, Katie Magill, Sue Oravitz, Jim King, Scott Fiscus and Jim Shannon. After drawing a bye, they beat Perkin Elmer's "A" team by a 15-7 score before squeezing by United Illuminating by a 15-13 score in the semi-finals. That win was their closest match of the day as they then toppled Griffin Hospital in two straight games to take the title.
