One of Valley United Way’s community partners is the Department of Labor’s Rapid Response Unit. The Department of Labor offers a wide variety of services to workers facing layoffs, and the Rapid Response Unit brings information about those programs directly to worksites throughout the Valley before employees are actually separated from their jobs. The program is offered to employers, and on-site presentations are made at the discretion of the employer.
In the Valley, the Department of Labor contacts Valley United Way to assist in the employee presentations. United Way presents information about services being provided in the Valley by the health & human services network. United Way partners with the Valley Council for Health & Human Services and the Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce to present the information. United Way also provides additional information and brochures about the services available from Infoline 2-1-1. Valley United Way President & C.O.O. makes many of the presentations, and he said, “It’s never easy visiting with employees facing an imminent loss of employment, however we have found that the employees greatly appreciate the information and the sense of community support and empathy for what they are facing.” He also said that, “The Department of Labor has been terrific to work with, and they bring tremendous knowledge and resources to bear to help ease employees through a very difficult time. We appreciate their asking us to be involved and bringing our knowledge of the community to bear. This is a great service offered by the State of Connecticut.”
