Valley United Way’s High School Volunteer Council joined together as they brought the joy of the season to so many residents who listened to students sing special Christmas songs. This was the 12th year that the Council has been invited to sing and the first year that all six valley high school council members were able to join in. it was a day of merriment and joy as the students sang gleefully from holiday songbooks. Each student had a chance to ring the bells as everyone sang. It was fun and festive and an event that will long be remembered by the residents as well as the students. During many of the songs many of the residents happily sang with the students. Following the singing, Council members were driven (by taxi cabs provided through a grant from the Valley Community Foundation) to enjoy their annual holiday lunch at Captain’s Pizza – Shelton. The food was great and the staff was exceptional. Click here for more pictures.
The High School Volunteer Council held its 2011-2012 Kickoff Breakfast at Valley United Way on November 28, 2011. Each Valley town was represented with Advisors and Students. Nine Advisors and twenty two students are members of the 2011 Council. The Mission and Goals of the Council… SIX HIGH SCHOOLS…ONE VALLEY COMMUNITY…SOLID RESULTS. Serving the Valley Community for 16 years.:
Monthly meetings will be held throughout the year. The meetings are hosted by a different high school each month. The Council will join together for their 10th annual community volunteer project on December 20th at United Methodist Homes in Shelton and sing holiday songs to the residents. This has been a favorite project for the Council because following the holiday singing they will all travel to Captains Pizza for a holiday luncheon The High School students were able to attend the meeting thanks to a grant from the Valley Community Foundation. This unique grant was awarded to provide taxi cab transportation for students to be picked up at their high schools, driven to the high school hosting the meeting and then picked up and returned to their school. We are very grateful to the Foundation for their support because without this grant the Council would not be able to meet. |
